Microsoft Releases March “Patch Tuesday” Updates

Microsoft has just released new “Patch Tuesday” updates for all supported versions of Windows 10. If you’re running the latest version 1809, you can now install the build 17763.379 (KB4489899) from Windows Update.

This new build brings a fix for the gaming performance degradation issue that came with the previous optional update, and HoloLens users should also see some improvements with tracking and device calibration. You can check the full list of improvements and fixes below:

  • Addresses an issue in Microsoft HoloLens with tracking and device calibration that has affected some users. You may notice improvement 10-15 minutes after installing this update, but we recommend resetting the holograms for best results.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause users to receive “Error 1309” while installing or uninstalling certain types of MSI and MSP files.
  • Addresses an issue that may degrade graphics and mouse performance with desktop gaming when playing certain games, such as Destiny 2, after installing KB4482887.
  • Security updates to Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Shell, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Kernel-Mode Drivers, Windows Server, Windows Linux, Windows Hyper-V, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Wireless Networking, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows, and Windows Fundamentals.

Be aware that this new build doesn’t fix the Internet Explorer 11 authentication issues that have been present in recent builds, and there’s also another bug causing some audio applications to stop working on machines with multiple audio devices. Microsoft expects to fix this particular issue in another patch coming later this month.

If you’re still running Windows 10 version 1803, the build 17134.648 (KB4489868) is now available for you with the following improvements and fixes:

  • Addresses an issue that may cause users to receive “Error 1309” while installing or uninstalling certain types of MSI and MSP files.
  • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Shell, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Hyper-V, Windows Server, Windows Linux, Window Kernel, Windows MSXML, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.

In contrast with the Patch Tuesday update for Windows 10 version 1809, Microsoft isn’t aware of any issues with this update for the version 1803. In case you’re still running older versions of Windows 10, there are also new Patch Tuesday updates for the versions 1709 and 1703, and we invite you to check what’s new on Microsoft’s Windows 10 update history page.
